Joint iQ (Step by Step) Home Page Old Design:

Establishing a New Brand Language

New Design:

- Instruction is shorter and easier to read.
- Patient X-ray and Comparison X-ray labels are centered on top of the X-rays to make it more apparent.
- Removed AI prediction tag, when users first arrive at this page, nothing is selected.
- Added a step by step walkthrough guide on under the "Help" icon button.
2
Eliminate redundant touch points in the Training modules.
90% of users found the process of entering patient data, downloading and uploading x-rays to be useless to their learning and a huge time sink.
Joint iQ Education V1 Module Flow Map (Old)

Joint iQ Education V2 Module Flow Map (New)

- Training 1 and 2 combined to single training module with a care pathway selection exercise.
- Two modules have same flows in the first half - repetition is good to reinforce concepts learned.
- Added a step by step walkthrough guide on under the "Help" icon button.

Instead of having users copy pasting patient info from an external source, we designed patient personas that represent common chief complaints seen at an orthopedic clinic.

In the old design, users were required to externally download a PDF that had the patient persona’s responses to the survey and copy the responses from the PDF. Testers have found this step unnecessary as it didn’t benefit their learning objective of x-ray evaluations in any way.

Instead of having users downloading a ZIP file of x-rays and re-uploading the x-rays into the system, the new design features an x-ray selection screen that only requires users to select the appropriate x-ray views for the patient. A lot of clinical worker testers struggled with externally downloading, locating and uploading files as they do not usually do this in their daily workflow.

3
Implement a feedback system for better performance tracking.
70% of users struggled to keep track of their progress and performance as they completed the Testing module.
Old “Report Card” Screen Design

- Contrast between the wrong and right answers are not clear enough.
- Users found this information to be good to review in the future but there is no visual indicator that keeps track of their progress and errors.
New "Report Card" Designs
We focused on implementing a scoring system after important exercises such as X-ray Evaluation and Care Pathway Selection:

- Added a percentage score breakdown of how well you did on each "patient" in main navigation page for the test your knowledge section.
- The score allows users to quickly determine which joints they may need more practice on and viewing the score breakdown gives a detailed of which exercises were evaluated incorrectly (see "Overall Evaluation Report Card" above).
Old Care Pathway Selection Exercise Feedback Design

- Users would ask “Why did I get it wrong?”
- There was no explanation for why the selected care pathway is incorrect and what the “correct” answer is.
- This resulted in dissatisfaction with understanding the process of selection.
Opportunity Space
Implementing better feedback on explaining the wrong answer that encourages users to understand the process to getting the correct answer.
Design Iterations

Another round of iterations yielded more positive feedback:
- Users liked that how the correct recommendation is shown if they've gotten it wrong, but wished they had gotten a chance to try again after understanding why their selection is wrong.
- A visual matrix that explains how we factor in score and level of degeneration to determine the Care Pathway was the most informative graphic for most of the users.
New Care Pathway Selection Exercise Feedback Design
- With the updated brand language, the users feel like the page is much cleaner, and it emphasizes the matrix when it's triggered to open after an incorrect selection.
- Users really like that the matrix acts as a stepping stone' to the correct answer as it encourages them to interpret the matrix before understanding the correct answer.
- Users find the follow up screen with the x-ray thumbnails to be helpful for summarizing their entire evaluation process as it gives them another chance to review x-rays and relate it to the final recommended treatment.
